Any surgical procedure that can be performed in a brief period of time (usually < 1 hour under local anaesthesia) and does not under normal circumstances constitute a major hazard to life or function of organs or body parts. Minor surgery does not generally require hospitalisation and may be performed electively, usually by a general surgeon in a secondary-care hospital setting.
